Safely and reliably getting Canadian products to market

Canadians rely on rail transport to get the goods they need to live heathy, happy lives and the countries chemistry and plastics sectors depend on rail to get our vital products to market. Did you know thatmore than 80 per cent of chemistry products are shipped by rail in Canada? This includes the chemicals needed to ensure your drinking water is safe to drink and the chemicals needed to de-ice an airplane, so it’s fit to fly.
These and countless other chemistry products are essential for our way of life, and they simply couldn’t get to market and help Canadians without safe and reliable rail service.

Improving transportation safety

Many CIAC members go above and beyond what is required for transporting chemicals. This is seen in their commitment and leadership of the TRANSCAER® initiative and TEAP III program.

Advocating for transportation reliability and service

CIAC advocates for a safe, fair, commercially based, market-driven freight rail system through legislation such as The Canada Transportation Act. This work is key in supporting competitiveness, trade interests, jobs, and economic growth and prosperity.
