The Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC) represents leaders in Canada’s chemistry and plastics sectors, including innovators, solution providers, and sustainability pioneers. We advocate for public policies that support innovation, investment, jobs, and environmental stewardship at federal and provincial levels.
CIAC is a founder of Responsible Care®, the industry’s global sustainability initiative, we uphold its ethic and principles for the benefit of society, the environment, and the economy, and that we “do the right thing and are seen to be doing the right thing.”
The position also provides supportive functions to the Leadership Groups, Health and Safety (SHARE) Network, Process and Safety Network, and the National Advisory Panel.
The Responsible Care Program Officer is responsible for organizing the annual Responsible Care Awards which recognize companies that exemplify leadership and outstanding performance in implementing Responsible Care over the past year. This involves launching the nominations process, collecting nominations, convening a judging panel, coordinating with award recipients and organizing the annual in-person awards ceremony.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative Program Support and Coordination:
- Participates in, organizes, and manages meeting logistics, agendas, minutes, and follow-up tracking for multiple committees.
- Maintains websites, committee lists, project tracking, and helps organize webinars.
- Responds to and provides guidance related to general program enquiries.
- Manages, filing and document/information tracking.
- Assists in the coordination of issues and activities.
- Provides regular feedback on Responsible Care continuous improvement initiatives.
- Processes and tracks orders, invoices, and receipts.
- Supports the planning for workshops and potential Responsible Care Conferences.
- General office duties and assistance as assigned.
Program, Policy and Communication
- Researches and gathers information to support advocacy work for the Association.
- Supports the development of communication tools and guidance documents.
- Develops and implements social media outputs.
- Supports the development of newsletter and other content.
- Manages the production of the annual Responsible Care Report.
- Makes presentations to various committees and stakeholders.
- Represents CIAC at various meetings and events.
Skills & Experience
- Ability to manage programs with a sharp eye for details.
- Understanding of the role of the chemistry and plastics industry in general, nationwide, and globally.
- Strong computer literacy utilizing MS Office applications
- Exceptional organization, and strong writing and verbal communication skills in both French and English.
- Energetic, proactive self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision, results oriented.
- Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Knowledge of social media platforms.
- Able to multi-task, prioritize and deliver on multiple demands under tight deadlines.
- Ability to travel and work outside regular business hours as required.
- Degree or certificate in Business Administration, Public Administration, Communications, Social Sciences or an equivalent combination of experience and training in a related field.
Minimum three (3) years experience in a similar position, preferably in non-profit environment or an equivalent combination of experience and training in a related field.
