CIAC welcomes new member Evonik Catalysts / Porocel of Canada Inc.

October 18, the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC) welcomed new member Evonik Catalysts.

Located in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Evonik Catalysts is a worldwide, innovative leader in catalyst services and a leading producer of activated alumina, specialty adsorbents and support media to the refining and petrochemical industries. In 2020, Porocel of Canada Inc. was acquired by Evonik, which has been a CIAC member for more than 25 years.

Evonik Catalysts owns a technology to rejuvenate used desulphurisation catalysts, which are chemicals that are needed to make low-sulphur fuels. This process causes less than half the carbon dioxide emissions that are associated with the production of new desulfurisation catalysts. Their facility in Medicine Hat employs around 25 people.

“We are delighted to have Evonik Catalysts join CIAC as a full member. With their strong commitment to sustainability and continuous improvement, they are clearly dedicated to the ethic and principles of Responsible Care® and will be a wonderful addition to our membership,” said Bob Masterson, President and CEO of CIAC.

“We are happy to be joining CIAC and to join the solutions-oriented industry leaders that make up CIAC’s membership. We look forward to working collaboratively with stakeholders on innovation, investment, trade and policy.” said Terry McHugh, head of Business Line Evonik Catalysts Region Americas and head of Product Line HPC & AdCats.
