CIAC congratulates INEOS Styrolution and GreenMantra for their joint development agreement to advance polystyrene chemical recycling

The Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC) congratulates GreenMantra and CIAC member INEOS Styrolution for their joint development agreement to advance polystyrene chemical recycling, advancing a circular economy through innovation. The announcement was made today at CIAC’s conference on Responsible Care, Good Chemistry 2019.

The agreement will align GreenMantra’s patented technology and INEOS Styrolution’s manufacturing infrastructure to convert waste polystyrene into chemical building blocks which will then be used in INEOS Styrolution’s polymerization process. This agreement allows both companies to expand their efforts to advance the circular economy by diverting waste from landfills.

“This is another excellent example of the chemistry industry providing innovative solutions to some of the world’s toughest challenges. We are proud of our member INEOS Styrolution partnering with Canadian company GreenMantra to create a real, workable solution to our challenges with polystyrene waste,” said Bob Masterson, President and CEO of CIAC. “We are strongly committed to establishing a circular economy for post-consumer plastics.”

GreenMantra is a Brantford, Ontario clean technology company that uses a proprietary catalyst and patented process to transform recycled plastics into polymers which are then used industrial applications.

INEOS Styrolution is the leading global styrenics supplier. It employs approximately 3,500 people and operates 20 production sites in ten countries, including a site in Sarnia, Ontario.
