Provincial Pandemic Update

Provinces across the country continue to take gradual steps to reopen their economies while implementing measures to limit the transmission of COVID-19, including using PPE, protective barriers, and general social distancing measures.  

Alberta  

The Alberta Government has implemented a program to distribute 20 million non-surgical masks to Albertans for free. 

The provincial government has also committed $200 million in funding for eligible businesses and non-profits to help implement transmission reduction measures and offset a portion of relaunch costs. The government is also planning further measures, including legislation, to ensure commercial tenants will not face rent increases or be evicted for non-payment of rent due to the COVID-19 public health emergency.    

Ontario  

The Ontario Government announced a regional approach to Stage 2 of reopening Canada’s most populous provinceGeographically speaking, most of province is permitted to take the next step in relaunching the economy except for the Golden Horseshoe (Durham, Toronto, York, Peel, Halton, Hamilton, Niagara), Haldimand-Norfolk, Windsor-Essex and Lambton which also happens to contain the majority of the province’s populationThe province will assess the remaining Stage 1 regions on a weekly basis.
