The Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC) is looking for a motivated and creative Communications Coordinator to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career communications professional who wants to contribute to meaningful public policy conversations and help tell the story of Canada’s chemistry and plastics sector. 

 

About CIAC 

CIAC is the national voice of Canada’s chemistry and plastics sector. Our members help create the essential building blocks used in everyday products and technologies across nearly every manufacturing industry in Canada. We are also the founders of Responsible Care®, the chemistry industry’s globally recognized sustainability initiative, and deliver important programs including Operation Clean Sweep® and TRANSCAER®. 

Our team works closely with governments, industry leaders, and stakeholders to advance practical, evidence-based policy solutions that benefit Canadians, the economy, and the environment. 

About the Role 

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Communications, the Communications Coordinator will support CIAC’s communications and advocacy activities through digital content creation, social media management, media monitoring, and communications support for campaigns and events. 

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys writing, digital storytelling, public affairs, and collaborative teamwork in a fast-paced national organization. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Create and manage content for CIAC’s website, newsletters, and social media channels 
  • Develop and schedule social media content aligned with CIAC priorities and campaigns 
  • Support the production and distribution of CIAC’s newsletter, ChemNews 
  • Monitor media coverage and industry trends 
  • Assist with communications related to advocacy initiatives, events, and member engagement 
  • Help promote key initiatives including Responsible Care®, TRANSCAER®, and Operation Clean Sweep® 
  • Collaborate with internal teams to communicate industry priorities and member stories 

 

Qualifications 

  • Degree or diploma in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field 
  • 1–2 years of relevant experience (internships and co-op experience considered) including experience managing social media platforms and digital content 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities 
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment 
  • Familiarity with WordPress, Hootsuite, Mailchimp, or Constant Contact is considered an asset 
  • Basic graphic design skills are an asset 
  • Fluency in English is required; French is considered a strong asset 

 

Location and Work Arrangement 

Ottawa-based candidates are preferred. This position is currently designated as remote; however, operational needs may evolve over time and Ottawa-region employees may be required to transition to an in-office work arrangement in the future.

Salary: $50,000 – $58,000
