CIAC Statement on INC-5.2 Global Plastics Agreement Negotiations

The Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC) commends the tireless efforts of negotiators at INC-5.2 to advance a global agreement to end plastic pollution. While it is disappointing that an agreement was not finalized, we remain committed to working with governments and partners worldwide to deliver a balanced, practical, and implementable treaty.

Canada’s chemistry and plastics sectors are already investing in infrastructure, technologies, and product design to keep plastics in the economy and out of the environment—building a truly circular economy. This agreement remains the world’s best opportunity to tackle plastic pollution on a global scale, and we urge all parties to work together in the spirit of compromise to achieve it when negotiations resume.
