2026 Ontario Budget
March 31, 2026
The Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC) congratulates the Hon. Peter Bethlenfalvy, Minister of Finance on the tabling of the 2026 Budget – “A Plan to Protect Ontario.”
CIAC is pleased to see the government continue taking steps to support immediate and longer-term economic growth and prosperity. Of note in the 2025 Ontario budget, we highlight the following items:
- Accelerating capital investment with enhanced tax write-offs
- Cutting small business tax rates to boost growth
- Launching a $4B fund to attract private capital for strategic industry investment
- Strengthening supply chains and expanding trade capacity
- Prioritizing Ontario-made goods in public procurement
- Investing in nuclear energy and electrification infrastructure
- Advancing critical minerals and domestic supply chains
- Supporting trade-impacted sectors and workforce transition
As the government remains focused on critical minerals development, electric vehicle and battery manufacturing, our members’ Ontario operations produce important inputs that enable more efficient extraction and processing of critical minerals, chemicals and plastics that make safer, lighter and more fuel-efficient vehicles, and chemicals and materials used in lithium-ion batteries. As well, Ontario’s chemistry sector supports other key industries including forest products, electronics, construction, and food and beverage.
We look forward to working with the government on its strategies for advanced manufacturing and other initiatives to create the conditions that support growth, continued investment and the renewal of the chemistry and plastics sectors in Ontario.
