Sustainability

The Challenge

Industry and governments must work together to ensure a sustainable future for all Canadians. The Canadian chemistry industry must continue to innovate to address the impacts of this global challenge.

Our Solutions

Solving environmental challenges depends on chemistry-based solutions. Canada’s chemistry industry is a world leader in low-intensity carbon chemical production. CIAC promotes government policies that enable the chemistry industry to deliver innovations for a healthy environment and contribute to the low-carbon economy.

Promoting chemistry’s role in a low-carbon economy

An investment in Canada’s chemistry sector is an investment in creating some of the lowest GHG-intensive chemistry products on the planet.

Improving air quality

CIAC and its members helped to develop and continue to support Canada’s Air Quality Management System – a ground-breaking collaboration between industry, NGOs and governments, that sets base-levels of emissions for industry and other sectors and ensures air quality across the country.

Supporting
Responsible Care®

Through Responsible Care® and a commitment to sustainability and continuous improvement, our members continue to invest in pollution prevention, energy efficiency and resource conservation.

Leveling the playing field on carbon pricing

CIAC and its members are supportive of carbon pricing and continue to advocate for efficient initiatives that still recognize the global competition faced by our sector from non-carbon priced jurisdictions.

Advancing the circular economy

The products our members produce are essential in helping society meet its needs while moving to a low-carbon economy. However, these materials do not belong in our waterways or environment. This is why CIAC is actively working with our partners, governments and other stakeholders to advance the circular economy.
