CIAC EFFORTS SEE CHEMISTRY INDUSTRY CONCERNS ADDRESSED IN CTA REVIEW

The Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC) is extremely pleased with the comprehensive Canada Transportation Review report tabled earlier today.  We congratulate the Hon. David Emerson and the Review Committee for all their hard work.

“On initial review, the report appears to have addressed all of the issues and concerns CIAC outlined in its submission to the Review Committee last May,” says CIAC President and CEO Bob Masterson.  “Particularly in relation to investment in short line rail infrastructure; level of service and dispute resolution for shippers; and, harmonization of rail safety approaches with those of the United States.”

Rail is essential to the business of chemistry in Canada, with over two-thirds of its annual shipments moving by rail.  As the country’s third largest manufacturing sector exporter, the chemistry industry is highly dependent on the nation’s rail transportation network. A safe and reliable rail system is essential to keeping Canada’s chemistry industry globally competitive.”

“We’ve made great progress with this Review,” says Masterson, “and we look forward to continued collaboration with all stakeholders as we consider the impact the recommendations will have on our industry.”

The Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC) is the voice of Canada’s chemistry industry and represents more than 50 members and partners across the country.
