CIAC secures Ontario’s regulatory burden reduction initiative for the chemistry industry

Through the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada’s (CIAC) advocacy efforts, the chemicals sector has been selected to participate in a new online provincial regulatory burden reduction consultation program run by the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Growth (MEDG) – the Red Tape Challenge. This initiative is intended to obtain recommendations that can improve, streamline, or modernize provincial regulations while still protecting the public interest.  The online consultation period runs from August 1, 2017 to September 30, 2017.

To prepare for the consultation, CIAC and partner groups, including Responsible Distribution Canada, are spearheading pre-consultation engagements with MEDG officials. The goal is to build awareness and understanding of the provincial regulatory hurdles and barriers that impede competitiveness through unnecessary costs, time and complexity or involve significant overlap with regulations with other provincial authorities or levels of government.

To support the engagement, CIAC developed and released a survey for its Ontario members on March 10th.  The survey is intended to compile a list of the most pressing regulatory burdens faced by the sector as well as examples of best practice regulations from other jurisdictions to share with MEDG officials at upcoming meetings.

If you received an invitation to participate in the survey, we kindly ask you to take the time to complete it before April 21, 2017. Your support is greatly appreciated.
